This option is the small sister of the Shrinkwrap modifier. Here you first select a set of vertices in edit mode, then you call the Snap to Mesh function. This will snap your vertices to the closest vertex it can find on any other mesh.
As soon as you have called the snap to mesh operator…
… each selected vertex is snapped to the closest vertex on other meshes if it is located no farther away than a maximum distance of 5 cm. The maximum distance can be changed in the Operator Redo Panel…
The Operator Redo Panel is the main work panel for this tool. Here you can change various settings and interactively adjust your snapping:
- Snap range: the maximum distance from a vertex to a snap point if a vertex is not close to any snap point then it is considered to be out of snap range.
- Mark Out of Range vertices : After snapping only the out of range vertices are marked. This helps to quickly find those vertices which could not be snapped.
- Mark snapped vertices : After snapping only the vertices which have been snapped are marked.
- With hidden Objects : Normally only visible objects are taken into account as snap targets. But sometimes (rarely) you also want to snap to hidden objects. But be aware: When you enable this option then the results could be unexpected (but they are correct, we tested that!)
