But despite our attempt to make things easy, sometimes things go wrong. This Guide is a collection of Issues which have been reported by others. Ok, we have only one issue by now, but we add them as they get reported.<\/div>\n<div class=\"span6 rhcol\"><div class=\"symple-box  green center \" style=\"text-align:center;width: 50%;\"> Don&#8217;t Panic. Your problem can be fixed.<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"symple-toggle state-closed \"><h3 class=\"symple-toggle-trigger \">When the update fails<\/h3><div class=\"symple-toggle-container symple-clearfix\">\n<p>When you update an Add-on in Blender, then normally the following steps are performed:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The installer disables the current version of the Add-on.<\/li>\n<li>The disabled Add-on is removed from the system (deleted from disk).<\/li>\n<li>The new Add-on version is installed.<\/li>\n<li>You now can enable the new version manually<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>However sometimes you can not enable the addon after a new version is installed. this can happen because the first step (disabling the Add-on) does not disable all of the software. So it may happen that the old Add-on leaves some traces in the running Blender, which may result in subsequent errors when you try to enable the new Addon Version.<\/p>\n<p>When the above situation happens to you, then please go ahead as follows:<\/p>\n<h4>Step 1: Remove traces<\/h4>\n<div class=\"row-fluid\">\n<div class=\"rhcol span7\">\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Save Preferences<\/span><\/em> at the bottom of the User Preferences Panel<\/li>\n<li>Then close Blender<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">Note:<\/span><\/strong> It is important that you really close blender.<br \/>\nJust opening a new scene is not enough!<\/li>\n<li>Open Blender and open the User preferences again<\/li>\n<li>Type &#8220;Avastar&#8221; into the Add-on search field to locate your Add-on<\/li>\n<li>Then Enable the Add-on<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In most cases this is all that you need to do. Therefore the tool adds various functions and <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">user interface elements<\/span> to Blender.<\/div>\n<div class=\"span6 rhcol\">The full functionality of Avastar can be a bit overwhelming on first sight. You should be prepared to spend some time and patience to get it all working nicely for your projects.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>What does this Document provide?<\/h3>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">abstract:<\/span><\/strong> I show you how you can install Avastar on  or newer. Unpacking the zip file will result in installation failures! You only have to ensure that Blender is installed properly. Then the Add-on will be working as well.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"symple-toggle state-closed \"><h3 class=\"symple-toggle-trigger \">Q: Expand Add-on or keep the zip file?<\/h3><div class=\"symple-toggle-container symple-clearfix\">\n<p>Blender Add-ons are always installed in zip format.\u00a0All attempts to install the unzipped files will fail. So to ensure that your computer does not unzip the file after download, please review your browser settings.<\/p>\n<div class=\"symple-box  blue center \" style=\"text-align:left;\"> We suggest that you set your Browser to always ask you where to download, so you can specify where the zip file shall be placed. And then you also should set your Browser to never unzip your downloaded zip file after download.<\/div>\n<p><strong>For Mac Users:<\/strong><br \/>\nIf your Browser automatically expands the Zip file during download, then please do this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open the safari preferences<\/li>\n<li>On the General tab:<\/li>\n<li>Uncheck &#8220;Open safe files after downloading&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"symple-toggle state-closed \"><h3 class=\"symple-toggle-trigger \">Q: Is there an Archive of older Releases?<\/h3><div class=\"symple-toggle-container symple-clearfix\">\n<p>Yes, we keep older releases available for the case where you find something broken in the newest product release. The older releases are collected in a <em>the_archive<\/em> sub folder within your Download Folder.<\/p>\n<div class=\"symple-box  black center \" style=\"text-align:left;\"> You can only see the_archive folder when you have registered an account on the Machinimatrix Blog and when you are logged in to your machinimatrix account! <\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"symple-toggle state-closed \"><h3 class=\"symple-toggle-trigger \">Q: What does the Avastar Filename say?<\/h3><div class=\"symple-toggle-container symple-clearfix\">\n<p>We are often asked why the zip file is named as it is named. There is a reason. Here is the explanation:<\/p>\n<p><strong>avastar-M-m-rrrr_blender-B-bb.zip<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>avastar<\/strong>: the product name<\/li>\n<li><strong>M<\/strong>: The major product release<\/li>\n<li><strong>m<\/strong>: The minor product release<\/li>\n<li><strong>rrrr<\/strong>: The product revision number<\/li>\n<li><strong>B-bb<\/strong>: The earliest version of blender supported by this particular Add-on version<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Usually you are safe to download the zip file with the highest available product revision number.<\/p>\n<p>Only if you encounter a bug in Avastar you should consider to switch back to an older Avastar release by installing that over your current release. There is no need to uninstall first!<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<p>Finally install your Add-on as explained below<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<h2><i class=\"fas fa-battery-half\"><\/i> Install<\/h2>\n<p>We expect that you have successfully installed Blender and Blender works properly. And you can set some Add-on preferences for your convenience. <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Important:<\/strong> <\/span>Please make use of the documentation! This will save you (and us) a lot of time!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row-fluid\">\n<div class=\"span6 rhcol\">\n<ul>\n<li>To enable the Add-on you must check the checkmark at the top left corner of the Avastar Panel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"span6 rhcol\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"row-fluid\">\n<div class=\"span6 rhcol\">\n<ul>\n<li>In the last step you <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Save User Settings<\/strong><\/span> as your new default settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"span6 rhcol\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Note<\/strong>:<\/span> If Blender sends out any error messages after you saved the user settings, then please restart Blender now. In most cases the error messages stop showing up then.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<h2><i class=\"fas fa-battery-three-quarters\"><\/i> Verify<\/h2>\n<p>You can verify that Avastar has been successfully installed by navigating to the new Avastar menu entry in the Add section. Please ensure that you are in Object mode as that is the only mode from where you can add new Avastar characters. When you click on Avastar, a new Avastar mesh character will open up for you.
